Op-Ed: Why the Fight for AI Regulation Is Crucial for Our Future

Artificial intelligence is no longer a futuristic concept—it’s here, and it's transforming our world faster than we ever expected. As someone who has felt the impact firsthand, having spent over a year unable to find work as a data analyst due to AI and automation displacing jobs, I’m calling for urgent action. But this isn’t just about me or tech workers; it’s about every American and the future of our society. We need AI regulation now before it’s too late.
AI's Silent Takeover of Jobs
AI tools like ChatGPT are now capable of performing tasks that once required human expertise. What I used to do as a data analyst can now be done by AI at a fraction of the cost, leaving me and thousands of others jobless. And it’s not just the tech industry. Teachers, drivers, healthcare workers, and others across various fields are vulnerable. The International Monetary Fund recently warned that up to 60% of jobs in the U.S. could be wiped out by AI. This “AI Tsunami” is coming for all of us if we don’t act now.
The longer we wait to regulate AI, the more damage it will do. The government must take immediate steps, such as subsidizing reskilling programs for displaced workers and enforcing limits on how much companies can automate their workforce. We need to ensure that technology serves humanity—not replaces it.
The Call for a Nationwide Boycott on October 7th
On Monday, October 7th, 2024, I’m calling for a nationwide boycott of the U.S. economy. This peaceful action asks everyone to stay home—don’t go to work, don’t engage in any economic activity. We must show the government that we won’t stand for the unchecked takeover of our jobs by AI. Our livelihoods, dignity, and future are at stake, and we need to make our voices heard.
This boycott isn’t just about tech workers—it’s about you. Imagine driving a bus when that bus can soon drive itself, or teaching children who can simply ask ChatGPT to do their homework. Elon Musk himself said, "AI will not only take away your job but the meaning of life." We cannot let the future be one where machines dominate and human purpose is lost.
How You Can Join the Movement
This moment is bigger than any single person—it’s about creating a future where people come first. Here’s how you can take part in the AI Social Revolution:
Stay home on October 7th – Don’t work, don’t shop. This is a peaceful boycott of the economy.
Share this message on social media – Use the hashtag #DemandAIRegulation and let your network know why this is important.
Sign the petition – Add your voice to the growing call for AI regulation here.
We Must Act Before It’s Too Late
If we don’t act now, we might soon find ourselves jobless, unable to pay rent or mortgages, and watching AI run the world we built. This isn’t just science fiction—it’s happening right now. Thousands of other workers, just like me, are facing these struggles every day.
We need to fight for ethical AI regulation, or we’ll be left jobless, living in poverty, and grappling with a dystopian reality. Think about films like The Hunger Games—the loss of control, the disparity between the powerful and the powerless. Is that what we want for ourselves, for our children?
I urge you to act now by doing the most powerful thing you can: absolutely nothing. Stay home on Monday, October 7th. Let’s see how long it takes for the news to report what’s really going on when we, the people, refuse to be ignored. In solidarity, we will prevail.
Together, we can start the AI Social Revolution—a movement that ensures people, not machines, come first. We must act before it’s too late.

Human Rights: This isn't just about technology; it’s about safeguarding livelihoods, dignity, and human rights from being overtaken by machines.
Be Part of History: By joining this movement, you’re making a stand for ethical AI regulation. Together, we can ensure a future where technology serves humanity, not replaces it.
The AI Tsunami: The Chief of the International Monetary Fund warns that up to 60% of jobs in the U.S. could be wiped out by AI. If we don’t act now, we could all face joblessness.
A Stand for Everyone: Even if you haven’t been impacted by AI yet, it’s only a matter of time. AI affects all industries—from education to transportation to healthcare.
Corporate Profits vs. People: Corporations are replacing workers with AI to cut costs, without considering the long-term impact on society.
