My Last Attempt to Make the Government Aware of the Upcoming Crisis Due to Unregulated AI

In recent weeks, my advocacy efforts have reached a critical juncture. As the founder of Voice For Change Foundation, I have been actively engaging with policymakers for months to address the pressing issues surrounding artificial intelligence (AI) and its impact on the workforce. Below, I share the content of the emails sent to both Democratic and Republican congressmen and congresswomen, illustrating the urgency and importance of our cause. Additionally, I include the exchange with Annie Butler from Rep. Norman’s office, further emphasizing the critical need for immediate legislative action.

The Exchange with Rep. Norman’s Office

In a detailed communication with Annie Butler, Communications Director for Rep. Norman, I outlined the critical need for legislative action to address the unchecked advancement of AI technologies. Our exchange highlighted several key points:

  1. The Anxiety and Concerns of the Public:

    • During a profound conversation with a friend, the deep-seated anxiety about the future became apparent. Concerns about the potential repercussions of Donald Trump's re-election, the rapid advancement of AI, and the implications for our democracy were at the forefront. This dialogue underscored the urgency of addressing these issues to maintain societal stability and protect democratic institutions.

  2. The Urgent Need for AI Regulation:

    • I expressed my concerns regarding the Republicans abstaining from voting on Senate Bill 1047, aimed at addressing AI ethics and labor impacts. This abstention potentially leaves workers unprotected, increasing the risks associated with rapid technological advancements. As a data analyst with a decade of experience leveraging AI, my research indicates that if AI remains unregulated, the unemployment rate could jump to 13.4% by April 2025, leaving 22.5 million Americans out of work.

  3. Advocating for Comprehensive AI Policies:

    • Beyond Senate Bill 1047, I urged the implementation of the Artificial Intelligence Accountability Act of 2024. This act is essential for establishing clear guidelines and accountability measures for AI deployment. Additionally, I highlighted the importance of the Bipartisan Senate AI Working Group’s report, "Driving U.S. Innovation in Artificial Intelligence: A Roadmap for Artificial Intelligence Policy in the United States Senate," which outlines a comprehensive framework for addressing AI’s multifaceted opportunities and risks.

Dear Annie,

Thank you for your response. I appreciate your willingness to present this crucial information to the Congressman.

While we deal with bipartisan issues, an election year, and being distracted by assassination attempts on Donald Trump, the focus should be on the below.

Recently, I had a profound conversation with a friend that underscored the anxiety and concern many people feel about the future. This dialogue touched on the potential repercussions of Donald Trump's re-election, the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence, and the implications for our democracy and society. My friend expressed a deep concern about what will happen to America if Donald Trump gets re-elected, wondering if it could signify the end of democracy as we know it. This fear stems from the potential for drastic policy changes and the undermining of democratic institutions.

Additionally, I voiced my concerns regarding the Republicans abstaining from voting on Senate Bill 1047, which aimed to address AI ethics and labor impacts, potentially leaving workers unprotected and increasing the risks associated with rapid technological advancements. The current unemployment rate as of June 2024 is on the rise. Based on my research as a data analyst with 10 years of experience leveraging artificial intelligence, I found that if AI remains unregulated, the unemployment rate could jump to 13.4% by April 2025, which would mean 22.5 million Americans will be out of a job.

The implications of these findings are alarming. Without proper regulation and proactive measures, the unchecked growth of AI could lead to unprecedented economic and social challenges. It is imperative that we act now to ensure the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies to protect our workforce and maintain societal stability.

In addition to Senate Bill 1047, I strongly urge you to push for the implementation of the Artificial Intelligence Accountability Act of 2024 as a top priority. This act is essential for establishing clear guidelines and accountability measures for AI deployment. Furthermore, on May 15, 2024, the Bipartisan Senate AI Working Group—Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senators Mike Rounds (R-SD), Todd Young (R-IN), and Martin Heinrich (D-NM)—released a report titled "Driving U.S. Innovation in Artificial Intelligence: A Roadmap for Artificial Intelligence Policy in the United States Senate." This report outlines a comprehensive framework aimed at addressing the multifaceted opportunities and risks presented by AI technologies. Advocating for the latest bipartisan AI Senate report will help in developing comprehensive and balanced AI policies that can garner broad support across the political spectrum.

Supporting these initiatives not only aligns with the need for ethical governance but also ensures long-term economic growth and stability. Regulated AI can drive innovation, create new job opportunities, and maintain America’s leadership in the global technology landscape. As we face these challenges, we must remember our faith and the moral imperative to protect our society. The concept of the seven-year tribulation from Christian eschatology, which is a period of intense hardship and suffering, underscores the importance of preparing and safeguarding our communities against potential crises.

I urge you and your colleagues to prioritize the passage of Senate Bill 1047, the Artificial Intelligence Accountability Act of 2024, and to actively support the bipartisan AI Senate report. Our future depends on it.

Summary of My Approach

In my effort to bring attention to the urgent need for AI regulation, I am working towards sending emails to all Republican congressmen and congresswomen with the following template email, as well as a different version to the Democrats. This approach aims to address the concerns and priorities of both political parties, ensuring that the critical message about the dangers of unregulated AI is heard across the political spectrum.
