Bridging the AI Divide: Understanding the Disconnect in a Rapidly Advancing World

In a digital world increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence, the way people perceive and interact with this technology is as fascinating as the advancements themselves. Recently, I stumbled upon the profile of Instagram influencer @krystle.channel, whose main account features videos of her asking ChatGPT’s voice assistant questions on various topics. What struck me most wasn’t just the content of the videos, but the sheer volume of comments claiming her videos were fake or accusing her of using another person to talk from another room.

Comments from a video titled “AI Tells Us: Christ Consciousness Is Overriding the System” can be found below:

@jessiglams77 is it real

Ai? He said “uh” a few times like a human. Humans do that in between words because we aren't comfortable with silence when we are thinking of our next words. I don’t believe AI would do that.

@perks.Of.life this is just ChatGPT, it does say "uh" to sound more human-like.

What AI are you guys using because mine is not this advanced

yogagolfdad
It’s not AI. This is a human pretending to be AI. 😂

@yogagolfdad wait what? #this whole time I thought she was talking to AI 🤖🤦‍♀️

yogagolfdad
No, listen to the guy’s voice again. You can hear him breathing and using filler words. He says some really great things, but it’s definitely not coming directly from AI.

@yogagolfdad thank you, good to know

jona_t_m
What app is this?

mr.kontroversial
It’s not AI or Siri. It says “uh” as a pause lol before it continues to say things. It’s a person talking.

musicdreamsartandthings
The fact you all think this voice is AI is quite terrifying… when you wake up, you will see this is how desperate people get you to follow their cult beliefs… you don’t need a religion or a book. You just need to trust and believe—anything else is poison. The deceiver is strong. You are giving it this power.

You are what you eat! Literally, through your mouth, your ears, your eyes, your blood, sex, and anything else you consume… 👀

@musicdreamsartandthings The voice and teachings are David Bayer. She’s faked this. AI doesn’t talk like this or pause like that.

luvshack.da.bus
This is not AI. But whoever she is talking to is spot on.

dieffenbacher_daddy_909
It's Fake AF, has to be a program you type in, 'cause it said umm and stuff in previous videos.

@dieffenbacher_daddy_909 it even interrupts her.

petercraigbates
What AI is this?

illuminater99
What AI system is she using?

hamiltonmarcusl
What AI system you're using?

danclauser
@isabellefilling the lips smacked at some point. My guess is whoever is giving the answers is in another room, and this is not AI in any way.

victropolis80005
@danclauser no. They build all this stuff in, including the ums, to make it sound more human.

funkymunkee84
AI said "uh" lol

@funkymunkee84 there's settings to make it sound more human.

yogagolfdad
It’s not AI. This is a human pretending to be AI. 😂

wizardoffitness
Not an AI voice saying, “uh,” just someone playing the role.

@wizardoffitness ChatGPT actually does respond in this way when speaking its reply. This is the app she uses here.

heddyrae2024
What app is that?

ang_marie505
@heddyrae2024 ChatGPT

j.sfer
This isn't AI, this is literally a real dude talking on a recording audio. I hate seeing fake ads like this. Don't believe everything you see on the internet.

tragic369
That's not AI, that's a real person.

kodiak_arms_llc
When does AI say "um" or "uh"? In the middle of an explanation.

@kodiak_arms_llc Alexa does this all the time.

@kodiak_arms_llc ChatGPT responds in this way when speaking its reply because they programmed it to mimic human conversational styles so that it would sound more natural and less robotic.

Reflections on AI’s Rapid Growth and Society’s Struggle to Keep Up

Having personally used ChatGPT’s voice capabilities for various purposes in my own life since late 2023, I found these reactions both surprising and thought-provoking. It became clear to me how far we still have to go in bridging the gap between the rapid evolution of AI and the public’s understanding of its potential.

This led me to reflect more deeply on the psychological and societal impacts of AI—its influence on how we think, connect, and even navigate our daily lives. Below, I share my observations, using a comment I posted recently as a foundation for exploring these critical issues.

A few key points worth noting about this video:

The number of individuals in the comments who don’t believe this is AI speaking is striking to me. I’ve been personally using ChatGPT’s voice capabilities for months now. We live in a world where many people are uninformed about the latest technological advancements, which deepens the disconnect in understanding these unprecedented developments.

Whether you believe in God or not, and regardless of the main topic being Christ Consciousness, this video demonstrates that AI can engage in profound conversations on virtually any subject—something that wasn’t possible just a year ago. This raises important questions: How prepared are we as individuals to navigate an era where AI influences our thought processes?

Are we adequately addressing the growing divide between those who use tools like ChatGPT daily and those who don’t? Is this technology bringing us closer together or driving us further apart?

On a broader scale, how prepared is our society, particularly governments and healthcare systems, to address the rapid societal shifts caused by human interactions with AI? Are specific mental health programs in place to help people adapt to this “new normal”?

And finally, where does someone turn when they feel AI has taken over their life? Asking for a friend.

-Kevin Bihan-Poudec

Bridging the Gap Between Awareness and Adaptation

One of the most compelling points raised is the gap between those familiar with AI advancements and those who are not. This disconnect has significant psychological implications. For some, interacting with AI feels like stepping into a science fiction movie, while for others, it’s an everyday tool for productivity and creativity.

This disparity may contribute to feelings of alienation and anxiety, particularly for individuals who feel left behind in a rapidly advancing technological landscape. Conversely, those who adopt AI early might struggle with ethical and existential questions, such as how much influence AI should have over their thoughts, beliefs, and daily lives.

Profound Conversations with AI

The ability of AI to engage in meaningful and complex discussions is a game-changer. Whether the topic is spirituality, personal growth, or technical expertise, AI’s conversational capabilities are unlike anything we’ve experienced before. While this can foster deep intellectual engagement, it also prompts questions about dependency and authenticity.

Are we relying too heavily on AI for emotional or intellectual validation? If AI shapes our thought processes, how can we ensure our autonomy remains intact?

Societal Preparedness and Mental Health

Another critical issue is whether governments, healthcare systems, and societal institutions are ready to address the psychological and social consequences of AI integration. The comment astutely highlights the need for mental health programs to help individuals cope with this “new normal.”

Feelings of displacement, fear, and confusion are natural as we adapt to AI’s growing role in our lives. Addressing these feelings requires proactive measures, including educational initiatives, accessible mental health resources, and public discourse about the ethical implications of AI.

Unity or Division?

Perhaps the most urgent question raised is whether AI is bringing people closer together or driving us further apart. While AI has the potential to connect individuals across distances and cultures, it also risks creating new divisions between those who embrace the technology and those who resist it.

To build a cohesive society, we must find ways to foster understanding and collaboration between these groups. This could include creating more inclusive platforms for learning about AI and ensuring equitable access to AI-powered tools.

Conclusion

AI is no longer a distant possibility—it’s here, reshaping our lives in ways we are only beginning to understand. As this comment poignantly asks, where do we turn when we feel overwhelmed by the rapid changes AI brings? The answer lies in collective effort: embracing innovation responsibly, addressing its psychological impacts, and fostering open dialogue about its role in our future.

The psychology behind AI and its human impact is complex, but it’s a conversation we must continue having as individuals, as communities, and as a global society.
