My Year-Long Battle to Fight for AI Regulation and Workforce Preservation in the United States
As I sit down to reflect on the past year this New Year’s Day, it’s hard to put into words the intensity of this journey. In early 2024, I embarked on a mission to advocate for something I knew was critical to our future in the United States: ethical AI regulation and workforce preservation. What began as an effort to address the rapid, unchecked rise of artificial intelligence in the workplace quickly evolved into a fight for the very fabric of our society.
The year was marked by massive layoffs across industries, particularly in tech and manufacturing. As companies streamlined operations with AI, countless workers were left scrambling to survive in a labor market that no longer seemed to value human expertise. Automated hiring systems, saturated markets, and the increasing reliance on AI-driven decision-making created barriers for even the most qualified individuals. I know this all too well—despite a decade of experience as a data analyst, I faced rejection after rejection, my efforts to find meaningful work blocked at every turn.
My advocacy efforts centered around raising awareness of the urgent need for regulation to prevent further devastation. I launched campaigns, wrote letters to lawmakers, and worked tirelessly to engage industry leaders. I spoke about the impact on displaced workers and emphasized on companies to prioritize reskilling programs to help employees transition into new roles. Yet, despite the mounting evidence of harm, progress felt elusive.
Throughout this battle, I saw the human toll of inaction: families struggling to make ends meet, individuals losing their homes, and a growing sense of despair among workers who felt left behind by a system that once valued them. I, too, became a casualty of this system, losing my own home as the year drew to a close.
But even in the face of these challenges, I refuse to give up. My belief in the importance of ethical AI and workforce preservation is unshaken. The stakes are too high to stop now. While I am taking a much-needed break, I remain more determined than ever to push for solutions that ensure a balance between innovation and humanity—a future where progress doesn’t come at the expense of people’s livelihoods.
To those who have followed my journey or felt the impact of this shifting landscape, I urge you to join this fight. Advocate for regulation, demand corporate responsibility, and amplify the voices of those calling for change. Together, we can ensure that technology serves humanity rather than undermines it.
As 2025 begins, I’m stepping into the unknown, navigating new adventures while continuing this battle for fairness, equity, and a better future for all.
To every worker who feels unseen: your voice matters. To every leader with the power to act: the time is now. Let’s not wait until it’s too late.
